Our family first attended Allen Creek Community Church (AC3) in October 2014. We had been looking for a place that was more modern and laid back than churches we have attended in the past. Our plan was to visit several churches until we found one that we liked, and then stay there. We loved AC3 from the first visit, and haven't even thought about looking for another church since. Everyone has been very welcoming, and we are now participating in more church activities, including extended learning sessions hosted off-site. Our kids also love the drama and music used to teach each week's message, and we all appreciate the engaging methods used at AC3 to learn about Christ instead of just listening to someone preach about it (boring!).
To the parent who's kiddo had that experience, I am deeply sorry. That is not in any way how AC3 raises their youth. As a matter of fact there are so many kids who show up on Tuesday and Wednesday evening who's only exposure to church is youth group.
If any one ever experiences something like this at AC3, please ask to talk to Braeden and Brandon. They really are amazing youth leaders who have made an amazing difference in my kid's lives. They are helping shape my kids to be the leaders to go out and impact this world in a positive way. It hurts to think there's a kiddo out there who was hurt like that.
A church that meets in a warehouse that has theatrical performances weekly and even played AC/DC once... Bizarre to some, but aren't most families?
It makes me sad to know that this happened to your family. If there was a chance for you to talk to the youth leaders there, i know they would have found some of the kids who are leaders and would have made your kiddo feel welcomed. It seems like this is an older post, so hopefully by now you have found a church home that you feel good about. I am just so sorry you had this experience.
We have already learned so much in the past 4 months, and have already experienced many positive changes in our lives. We look forward to continuing to learn and grow at AC3, and look forward to becoming more involved in their ministries and community activities.
It took all I could give to walk in to the church alone. No one greeted me and I felt like a freak. I left after 20 minutes. Please be aware that there are people trying to change their lives who are shy, down, and desperate. Appearances are deceiving. Please make people feel welcome if you don't recognize them. Instead I came home and cried.
I am sorry as well, I have worked at this church for a year and a half now, an have never seen anything to make me think barely of this church.
I just talk to my kids about your post and your experience to hopefully make sure that at least two more kids out there who are looking to help other kids feel like they belong.
Our kids are now participating in the youth groups and Creek Kids children's programs, and have made several new friends. They look forward to going to church every week, and they don't want to leave when it's time to go home, even though we go to both the Saturday and Sunday services!
